The Public Health Act came into force on 29th July, 1948 but some elements of it are over a hundred years old. The review process is further justified in light of the evolution of public health since the enactment of the Act. The adoption of the Constitution in 1994 and the adoption of various sectoral policies since then, including the National Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights Policy and the National Decentralization Policy are some of such policies. Review of the Public Health Act commenced in February, 2012 following a submission from the Ministry of Health.
